1.    Pengertian Komunikasi
Komunikasi merupakan bagian yang tidak dapat dipisahkan dari kehidupan manusia, terlebih manusia yang melakukan aktifitas ataupun pekerjaan tertentu.
Menurut kamus Bahasa Indonesia komunikasi adalah penyampaian dan penerimaan pesan antara dua orang atau lebih secara benar, sehingga tujuan berkomunikasi tercapai.
Orang yang menyampaikan informasi disebut komunikator sedang penerima informasi disebut komunikan. Komunikator dapat menyampaikan informasi atau pesan secara lisan, tertulis maupun dengan isyarat.
Ada beberapa hal yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan suatu komunikasi, antara lain:
a.    Komunikator dapat berperan baik
b.    Tujuan komunikasi harus jelas
c.     Isi komunikasi dikemas secara jelas dan mudah dipahami
d.    Alat komunikasi yang tepat dan baik
e.    Komunikasi harus menarik

2.    Macam-macam Jenis Komunikasi
Komunikasi ada beberapa macam atau jenis. Masing-masing jenis komunikasi mempunyai kekurangan dan kelebihan.

Macam-macam komunikasi yang dimaksud antara lain:
a.    Komunikasi secara lisan
Komunikasi lisan adalah komunikasi yang bersifat langsung, yaitu dalam bentuk pembicaraan. Komunikasi dalam bentuk pembicaraan, diperlukan pembicara yang baik.

b.    Komunikasi tertulis
Komunikasi tertulis adalah penyampaian informasi dengan tujuan etrtentu dengan cara ditulis, baik ditujukan pada seseorang maupun kepada kelompok orang. Komunikasi tertulis biasanya berupa surat, kartu, tulisan dinding/poster dan sebagainya.

c.     Komunikasi dengan gambar
Komunikasi atau informasi kadangkala lebih tepat dengan menggunakan gambar. Misalkan tanda-tanda penyimpanan bahan berbahaya, larangan atau perintah terkait dengan keselamatan kerj, gambar teknik dan sebagainya.

d.    Komunikasi dengan isyarat
Komunikasi dengan isyarat kadangkala lebih efektif, manakala pada suatau tempat atau tempat kerja dengan mobilitas tinggi. Misalnya isyarat tangan untuk mengatur lalu lintas, lampu tanda lalu lintas dan sebagainya.

3.    Macam-Macam Peralatan/Media Komunikasi
Pemilihan dan penggunaan peralatan komunikasi adalah hal yang tidak dapat dihindarkan, bahkan menjadi sebuah kebutuhan pada jaman moderen ini. Seseorang akan mudah berkomunikasi dengan orang lain yang bertempat tinggal jauh dari komunikator dengan peralatan tertentu.


Berdasarkan cara menggunakan, alat komunikasi ada beberapa macam, antara lain:
a.    Alat komunikasi penglihatan (Visual)
Visual berarti dapat dilihat. Jadi alat komunikasi visual adalah alat   bantu komunikasi yang dapat dilihat, dibaca sehingga tujuan komunikasi dapat tercapai.
Alat komunikasi visual antara lain: surat, kartu, poster,gambar teknik, lampu isyarat dan sebagainya.

b.    Alat komunikasi pendengaran (Audio)
Audio artinya dapat didengar. Alat komunikasi audio adalah suatu alat bantu berkomunikasi yang dapat menyiarkan suara sehingga komunikator dapat berbicara dengan komunikan dari jarak jauh.
Misalnya: Telphon, hand phone, Mikrophone, radio, tape dan sebagainya.
                                                                                                                  
c.    Alat komunikasi pendengaran dan penglihatan (audio visual)
Audio visual artinya dapat didengar dan dilihat. Jadi alat komunikasi audio visual adalah alat bantu komunikasi dimana komunikator dapat berkomunikasi dengan komunikan dari jarak jauh dengan masing-masing dapat berbicara,mendengar dan melihat secara langsung. Contohnya: Televisi, Hand phone dan sebagainya.
